Come and join Capt. Nico the island's best fly fishing, light tackle guide aboard his 18ft Hewes Bayfisher flat boat, "Tight Loop", for spectacular tarpon fishing in Puerto Rico's backcountry lagoons. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Capt. Nico has been fishing the lagoons of Torrecilla and San Jose since his childhood.
Fishing these lagoons that are full of tarpon the best way to do it is with circle hook's. After 30 years of fishing for tarpon the best result's have been with those circle hook's. We have a better hook up ratio with them and using them with fluorocarbon leader is the best choice for them. From 3/0 to 8/0 on the hook's and from 30 pound fluorocarbon to a 100 pound fluorocarbon for the big ones. On the fly's I make my own fly's that work perfect for these waters simulating the bait fish that we have around. Fishing rod's are full of line from 8 to 20 pound test for your convenience depending on the size of the fish.
At 41 years now he has released more than 8,000 tarpon with friends and clients during his life. "Tight Loop" was bought directly from the Hewes factory in Florida. Once delivered to Puerto Rico was outfitted with several custom innovations for tarpon fishing.
Capt. Nico has the record of most tarpon caught in a single day with a total of 56 tarpon and 1 snook breaking the old record of 47 and recognize by IGFA and it's president Rob Kramer as one of the best days ever fishing for tarpon anywhere.
Capt. Nico has guided men, female and junior anglers to over 30 state records.
Capt. Nico is the co- host of the only fishing tv show in the island . A PESCAR and you can check it out at www.apescar.tv.
